Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Aerospace & Defense and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 7.40% or 16.80 points to trade at 243.70 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 6.96% or 7.26 points to end at 111.54 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 5.35% or 16.40 points to 322.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which lost 1.45% or 62.0 points to trade at 4201.0 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 1.24% or 29.00 points to end at 2313.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 1.09% or 28.00 points to 2549.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1415 to 755 and 168 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $1904.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.97% or 0.80 to hit $39.84 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.74% or 0.74 to trade at $41.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.3027, while EUR/GBP rose 0.73% to 0.9096.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 92.843.
