Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food Producers, Oil & Gas Producers and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 4.83% or 107.0 points to trade at 2323.0 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 3.89% or 6.78 points to end at 181.00 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) was up 3.88% or 59.00 points to 1581.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq), which lost 1.56% or 0.53 points to trade at 33.54 in late trade. Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq) declined 1.35% or 0.018 points to end at 1.312 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) shed 1.15% or 92.0 points to 7878.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1352 to 818 and 242 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.04% or 0.65 to $1770.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.91% or 1.40 to hit $74.87 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.97 to trade at $75.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.3771, while EUR/GBP rose 0.47% to 0.8611.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.472.
