Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Automobiles & Parts and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.26% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 6.68% or 208.00 points to trade at 3320.00 at the close. Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) added 5.22% or 185.00 points to end at 3727.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 5.18% or 39.50 points to 802.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 5.91% or 460.00 points to trade at 7330.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 5.64% or 103.00 points to end at 1724.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 1.59% or 16.000 points to 990.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1561 to 868 and 377 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 2.66% or 34.95 to $1277.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.18% or 0.09 to hit $48.90 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.23 to trade at $51.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.76% to 1.2739, while EUR/GBP rose 0.52% to 0.8779.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 96.17.
