Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Automobiles & Parts and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 14.16% or 67.90 points to trade at 547.60 at the close. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) added 6.76% or 130.00 points to end at 2,054.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 4.28% or 118.00 points to 2,875.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which lost 4.31% or 10.30 points to trade at 228.70 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.63% or 28.80 points to end at 765.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) shed 2.78% or 36.50 points to 1,278.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1097 to 778 and 424 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.11% or 2.16 to $1,890.86 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.11% or 2.15 to hit $104.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.58 to trade at $106.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.61% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 103.56.
