Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 3.37% or 65.50 points to trade at 2010.00 at the close. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) added 3.25% or 13.70 points to end at 435.10 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 2.81% or 24.40 points to 894.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 2.11% or 26.00 points to trade at 1204.50 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 1.44% or 115.00 points to end at 7885.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 1.11% or 36.00 points to 3192.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1149 to 757 and 159 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.26% or 3.50 to $1325.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.81% or 1.69 to hit $61.81 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.58% or 1.64 to trade at $65.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.3869, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.8888.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 89.98.
