Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Oil & Gas Producers and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 6.21% or 111.00 points to trade at 1899.00 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 6.03% or 29.20 points to end at 513.20 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 5.22% or 55.50 points to 1119.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 8.24% or 38.90 points to trade at 433.10 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 4.19% or 102.0 points to end at 2333.0 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 3.66% or 5.44 points to 143.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1232 to 1010 and 142 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.89% or 29.65 to $1596.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.87% or 2.18 to hit $46.94 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.71% or 2.34 to trade at $52.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.2805, while EUR/GBP rose 1.69% to 0.8725.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.88% at 97.213.
