Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Software & Computer Services, Insurance and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 3.84% or 90.00 points to trade at 2433.00 at the close. Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) added 3.62% or 81.00 points to end at 2320.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 3.31% or 68.00 points to 2120.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 5.91% or 113.50 points to trade at 1808.00 in late trade. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) declined 3.36% or 28.30 points to end at 814.50 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 3.12% or 25.00 points to 777.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1315 to 723 and 325 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.88% or 11.45 to $1286.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.39% or 0.86 to hit $62.88 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 1.07 to trade at $72.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.2793, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8737.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 97.627.
