Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.05% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 7.33% or 43.00 points to trade at 630.00 at the close. Next PLC (LON:NXT) added 2.84% or 122.00 points to end at 4415.00 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was up 2.54% or 10.60 points to 428.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 3.20% or 13.00 points to trade at 392.90 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.40% or 27.00 points to end at 1098.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 1.73% or 86.00 points to 4878.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1291 to 845 and 151 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1270.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.43% or 0.25 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.21 to trade at $64.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3370, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8878.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 92.88.
