Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Chemicals and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.03% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 3.79% or 37.50 points to trade at 1026.50 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 3.52% or 68.00 points to end at 2000.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 3.50% or 10.70 points to 316.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which lost 2.90% or 22.40 points to trade at 750.00 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.46% or 3.45 points to end at 136.95 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) shed 1.54% or 21.00 points to 1342.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1171 to 642 and 309 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.13% or 1.70 to $1289.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.99% or 0.71 to hit $72.08 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.43 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.3420, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8773.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 93.57.
