Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Household Goods & Home Construction and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 6.06% or 186.00 points to trade at 3,258.00 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BTRW) added 4.66% or 22.00 points to end at 494.00 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) was up 4.55% or 31.00 points to 712.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 2.54% or 8.90 points to trade at 341.10 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 2.23% or 62.00 points to end at 2,714.00 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 2.15% or 17.80 points to 809.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1022 to 773 and 668 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 6.25 to $2,685.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.24% or 0.17 to hit $70.41 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.06 to trade at $74.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.59% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.42% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 103.29.
