Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Food & Drug Retailers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.95% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 4.96% or 11.10 points to trade at 234.90 at the close. Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) added 3.12% or 146.00 points to end at 4822.00 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 2.90% or 49.80 points to 1768.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which lost 2.16% or 12.60 points to trade at 571.20 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 1.51% or 90.00 points to end at 5855.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 1.21% or 62.00 points to 5052.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1214 to 875 and 343 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.12% or 1.55 to $1301.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.95% or 0.56 to hit $59.38 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.36 to trade at $67.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.40% to 1.3236, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8561.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 96.040.
