Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 9.40% or 12.70 points to trade at 147.80 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 8.70% or 41.30 points to end at 515.80 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 8.37% or 169.0 points to 2189.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 4.60% or 9.25 points to trade at 191.65 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 2.95% or 6.05 points to end at 198.85 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 2.25% or 5.40 points to 234.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1355 to 799 and 148 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.65% or 11.35 to $1749.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 23.37% or 3.22 to hit $17.00 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 7.22% or 1.47 to trade at $21.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.2351, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8743.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 100.422.
