Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Support Services, Household Goods & Home Construction and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which rose 13.73% or 57.00 points to trade at 472.20 at the close. St. James's Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 4.92% or 25.00 points to end at 533.00 and Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:HWDN) was up 4.07% or 35.00 points to 895.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 5.47% or 13.30 points to trade at 229.80 in late trade. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) declined 2.41% or 11.70 points to end at 473.30 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) shed 1.80% or 260.00 points to 14,215.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1199 to 639 and 674 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.06% or 24.55 to $2,351.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.53% or 0.41 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.44 to trade at $82.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.13% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.21% at 103.93.
