Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Software & Computer Services and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 4.00% or 232.00 points to trade at 6028.00 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 3.10% or 34.50 points to end at 1146.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was up 3.09% or 64.00 points to 2135.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 14.03% or 120.80 points to trade at 740.00 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 12.94% or 267.30 points to end at 1798.20 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 7.20% or 263.00 points to 3389.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1208 to 904 and 206 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.25 to $1513.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.96% or 0.54 to hit $55.95 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.30 to trade at $62.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.01% to 1.2348, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8851.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 98.748.
