Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 2.89% or 21.50 points to trade at 764.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.82% or 38.50 points to end at 1402.50 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.71% or 37.00 points to 1400.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which lost 1.45% or 17.00 points to trade at 1153.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 1.31% or 2.30 points to end at 173.40 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) shed 1.01% or 9.00 points to 883.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1395 to 555 and 442 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.73% or 9.62 to $1323.72 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.55% or 1.17 to hit $47.13 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.53% or 1.79 to trade at $52.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.2891, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.9218.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 92.79.
