Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Aerospace & Defense and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 6.54% or 54.20 points to trade at 882.80 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 4.06% or 7.80 points to end at 200.10 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.99% or 4.45 points to 153.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 2.81% or 79.00 points to trade at 2727.00 in late trade. Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) declined 2.81% or 116.50 points to end at 4033.50 and Relx PLC (LON:REL) shed 2.75% or 45.50 points to 1609.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1131 to 868 and 352 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.47% or 6.10 to $1307.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.09% or 0.06 to hit $66.70 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.66 to trade at $76.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.3320, while EUR/GBP fell 0.98% to 0.8730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.02% at 94.51.
