Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, General Retailers and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.83% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 6.14% or 322.00 points to trade at 5568.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 6.05% or 9.15 points to end at 160.35 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 5.32% or 6.49 points to 128.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 7.36% or 17.55 points to trade at 221.05 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 6.98% or 426.00 points to end at 5674.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 5.76% or 8.95 points to 146.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 997 to 739 and 339 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.49% or 6.40 to $1319.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.22% or 0.16 to hit $70.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.17 to trade at $77.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3500, while EUR/GBP rose 0.82% to 0.8820.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 92.66.
