Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.81% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.89% or 4.80 points to trade at 128.30 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 3.67% or 64.50 points to end at 1822.00 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was up 3.17% or 10.20 points to 331.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which lost 7.14% or 580.00 points to trade at 7540.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.37% or 40.00 points to end at 1650.00 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) shed 0.75% or 2.90 points to 382.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1107 to 875 and 330 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1217.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.90% or 2.70 to hit $66.47 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.51% or 2.62 to trade at $72.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.2874, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.9007.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 95.06.
