Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Tobacco and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 2.50% or 2.86 points to trade at 117.46 at the close. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) added 2.40% or 13.40 points to end at 572.00 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) was up 2.18% or 57.0 points to 2671.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which lost 6.54% or 995.0 points to trade at 14215.0 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 5.91% or 358.0 points to end at 5700.0 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) shed 5.42% or 185.0 points to 3229.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1348 to 657 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 2.55 to $1799.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.99% or 0.78 to hit $78.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.22% or 1.00 to trade at $80.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.3570, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8349.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 95.955.
