Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Software & Computer Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 2.62% or 22.60 points to trade at 886.00 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 2.55% or 20.80 points to end at 835.80 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) was up 2.03% or 12.00 points to 604.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which lost 19.47% or 126.00 points to trade at 521.00 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 6.10% or 7.30 points to end at 112.40 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) shed 3.33% or 10.90 points to 316.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1053 to 974 and 319 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.21% or 2.65 to $1288.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.55% or 1.29 to hit $51.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.05% or 1.21 to trade at $60.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.2754, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.8933.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 95.760.
