Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Software & Computer Services and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 4.38% or 45.00 points to trade at 1073.00 at the close. Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) added 2.49% or 39.00 points to end at 1604.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 2.47% or 12.30 points to 511.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which lost 4.47% or 9.90 points to trade at 211.50 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 4.13% or 10.10 points to end at 234.60 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) shed 1.70% or 45.00 points to 2596.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1145 to 968 and 132 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.58% or 7.20 to $1239.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.55% or 0.90 to hit $57.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.29 to trade at $63.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.13% to 1.3322, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.8799.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 94.19.
