Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Banking and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 7.60% or 14.20 points to trade at 201.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.31% or 18.40 points to end at 575.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 3.16% or 28.8 points to 941.4 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 2.48% or 70.0 points to trade at 2752.0 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 2.42% or 28.50 points to end at 1149.50 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 2.21% or 11.80 points to 522.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1142 to 1031 and 169 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.24% or 45.05 to $1968.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $43.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.05 to trade at $45.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.3151, while EUR/GBP rose 0.17% to 0.9025.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 92.765.
