Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which rose 2.78% or 8.10 points to trade at 299.60 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 2.43% or 66.00 points to end at 2782.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 2.39% or 33.50 points to 1437.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which lost 2.91% or 7.00 points to trade at 233.70 in late trade. Hiscox Ltd (LON:HSX) declined 2.89% or 44.00 points to end at 1480.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) shed 2.77% or 198.00 points to 6936.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1062 to 1019 and 190 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 8.05 to $1495.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.65% or 0.90 to hit $55.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 0.89 to trade at $60.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.2881, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8635.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.312.
