Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Tobacco and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 6.78% or 9.35 points to trade at 147.35 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 4.84% or 236.00 points to end at 5114.00 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 4.33% or 5.15 points to 124.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW), which lost 1.71% or 3.85 points to trade at 221.15 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 1.45% or 3.30 points to end at 223.80 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) shed 1.12% or 10.80 points to 949.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1280 to 807 and 329 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.57% or 7.35 to $1302.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.17% or 0.10 to hit $58.51 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.17 to trade at $67.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.3296, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.8513.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 96.585.
