Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which rose 10.54% or 1,545.00 points to trade at 16,200.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 4.98% or 99.00 points to end at 2,088.00 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) was up 4.54% or 26.40 points to 607.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 1.54% or 76.00 points to trade at 4,853.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 1.50% or 33.50 points to end at 2,198.00 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) shed 1.11% or 85.00 points to 7,565.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1170 to 609 and 700 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.97% or 24.45 to $2,483.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.87% or 0.68 to hit $77.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.27 to trade at $80.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.37% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 102.31.
