Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Household Goods & Home Construction and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which rose 4.91% or 19.50 points to trade at 416.50 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.47% or 3.02 points to end at 90.02 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 3.30% or 42.8 points to 1340.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.00% or 23.80 points to trade at 769.00 in late trade. Avast PLC (LON:AVST) declined 2.42% or 14.60 points to end at 590.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.23% or 39.50 points to 1731.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1256 to 937 and 214 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.55 to $1810.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.89% or 0.59 to hit $66.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 0.58 to trade at $69.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.3619, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.8647.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 93.037.
