Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical, Tobacco and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SSE PLC (LON:SSE), which rose 5.75% or 101.50 points to trade at 1,867.50 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 4.30% or 3.44 points to end at 83.52 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 3.38% or 29.60 points to 905.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 2.45% or 77.00 points to trade at 3,071.00 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 2.11% or 21.30 points to end at 987.20 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 2.03% or 23.00 points to 1,112.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 985 to 776 and 540 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.14% or 21.35 to $1,844.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.12% or 0.13 to hit $109.90 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.12 to trade at $110.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP fell 0.68% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 102.39.
