Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 4.61% or 16.10 points to trade at 365.40 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 3.94% or 68.00 points to end at 1795.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.72% or 30.00 points to 836.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP), which lost 40.55% or 78.10 points to trade at 114.50 in late trade. Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) declined 7.58% or 31.90 points to end at 389.10 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 5.79% or 35.00 points to 570.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1146 to 923 and 310 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 1.70 to $1231.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.70% or 1.36 to hit $51.65 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.74% or 1.03 to trade at $60.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.2779, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8903.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 96.770.
