Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.44% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 3.03% or 122.00 points to trade at 4145.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 2.52% or 5.60 points to end at 227.65 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 2.22% or 1.39 points to 63.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 2.26% or 42.00 points to trade at 1819.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.06% or 23.00 points to end at 1091.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.23% or 70.00 points to 5635.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1050 to 853 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.91% or 10.45 to $1132.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.57% or 0.30 to hit $53.36 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.95% or 0.52 to trade at $55.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2357, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.8409.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 103.28.
