Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Construction & Materials and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF), which rose 2.68% or 2.91 points to trade at 111.51 at the close. Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) added 2.23% or 84.00 points to end at 3,844.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) was up 2.17% or 7.80 points to 365.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV), which lost 16.06% or 105.00 points to trade at 549.00 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 2.40% or 29.00 points to end at 1,188.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 1.47% or 1.80 points to 120.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1087 to 518 and 135 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 2.99 to $2,631.19 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.34% or 0.93 to hit $70.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.87 to trade at $73.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.04% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 108.00.
