Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Metals & Mining and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.42% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.07% or 50.00 points to trade at 1677.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 3.07% or 7.40 points to end at 248.40 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) was up 2.61% or 56.00 points to 2201.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 3.67% or 29.80 points to trade at 782.20 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 3.19% or 68.00 points to end at 2063.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 2.52% or 3.65 points to 141.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1218 to 854 and 143 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.70% or 9.20 to $1311.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.51% or 0.93 to hit $62.66 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.75 to trade at $68.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.3526, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8815.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 92.31.
