Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, General Industrial and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 3.92% or 2.82 points to trade at 74.76 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 3.76% or 4.05 points to end at 111.65 and Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) was up 3.40% or 19.40 points to 590.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 3.47% or 4.42 points to trade at 123.02 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 2.75% or 29.50 points to end at 1,044.50 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 2.24% or 12.20 points to 531.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 994 to 930 and 377 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.87% or 16.20 to $1,842.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.76% or 3.88 to hit $99.21 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.70% or 3.92 to trade at $102.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 103.96.
