Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 3.51% or 74.0 points to trade at 2182.0 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.08% or 3.36 points to end at 112.30 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) was up 2.56% or 33.4 points to 1340.2 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 1.86% or 1.02 points to trade at 53.94 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 1.84% or 3.25 points to end at 173.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) shed 1.79% or 56.0 points to 3072.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1125 to 1073 and 238 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.18% or 3.40 to $1908.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.27% or 0.86 to hit $68.58 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.83 to trade at $71.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.18% to 1.4171, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8618.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 89.912.
