Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which rose 5.36% or 14.00 points to trade at 275.00 at the close. Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) added 4.72% or 20.90 points to end at 463.90 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) was up 3.65% or 14.70 points to 417.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 4.58% or 102.00 points to trade at 2126.00 in late trade. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) declined 2.76% or 21.80 points to end at 769.20 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) shed 2.42% or 2.20 points to 88.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1249 to 942 and 166 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1328.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $53.57 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.63 to trade at $61.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.17% to 1.2685, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8869.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.097.
