Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Transportation and Support Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were CRH PLC (LON:CRH), which rose 5.88% or 178.50 points to trade at 3,215.50 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 4.01% or 184.00 points to end at 4,776.00 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) was up 3.91% or 106.00 points to 2,817.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 5.34% or 61.00 points to trade at 1,082.00 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 4.75% or 292.00 points to end at 5,850.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 3.12% or 16.70 points to 518.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1104 to 751 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.27% or 5.20 to $1,953.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.47% or 0.48 to hit $102.53 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $107.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 100.40.
