Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Tobacco and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 13.16% or 87.00 points to trade at 748.00 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 3.83% or 103.00 points to end at 2793.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 2.96% or 42.00 points to 1462.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which lost 23.16% or 54.50 points to trade at 180.80 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 4.41% or 56.00 points to end at 1214.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 2.60% or 99.00 points to 3702.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1006 to 913 and 439 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.14% or 1.79 to $1292.91 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.42% or 1.17 to hit $47.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.54% or 0.81 to trade at $51.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.2800, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.9223.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 93.18.
