Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Chemicals and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 5.54% or 45.60 points to trade at 868.80 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.94% or 13.00 points to end at 456.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.86% or 24.80 points to 892.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 12.00% or 484.00 points to trade at 3549.00 in late trade. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 6.31% or 5.20 points to end at 77.24 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 5.10% or 6.35 points to 118.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1260 to 926 and 214 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 3.21% or 43.25 to $1392.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 5.39% or 2.91 to hit $56.88 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.87% or 2.39 to trade at $64.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.50% to 1.2702, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8891.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 96.162.
