Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, General Industrial and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 3.89% or 7.10 points to trade at 189.60 at the close. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 3.00% or 20.00 points to end at 687.00 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 3.00% or 5.20 points to 178.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 3.15% or 28.50 points to trade at 876.50 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 3.11% or 119.50 points to end at 3719.50 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 2.98% or 110.50 points to 3599.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1111 to 848 and 458 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.21% or 2.64 to $1283.56 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $51.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.07 to trade at $57.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.3183, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8933.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 93.39.
