Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Travel & Leisure and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Just Eat (LON:JE), which rose 6.82% or 50.40 points to trade at 789.80 at the close. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) added 5.97% or 372.00 points to end at 6600.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 5.58% or 36.00 points to 680.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which lost 11.43% or 258.00 points to trade at 2000.00 in late trade. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) declined 7.52% or 21.20 points to end at 260.60 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) shed 6.39% or 550.00 points to 8060.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1066 to 1041 and 195 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.23% or 33.05 to $1517.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 4.57% or 2.45 to hit $51.18 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 4.29% or 2.53 to trade at $56.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.09% to 1.2155, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.9236.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 97.252.
