Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which rose 6.56% or 82.50 points to trade at 1340.00 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 3.02% or 4.46 points to end at 151.96 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.98% or 19.80 points to 685.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which lost 11.07% or 24.20 points to trade at 194.40 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.31% or 57.50 points to end at 1276.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.43% or 22.00 points to 620.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1297 to 843 and 206 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.48% or 7.45 to $1552.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.22% or 0.13 to hit $59.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $65.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.3060, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8504.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.165.
