Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, General Industrial and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which rose 3.92% or 49.00 points to trade at 1300.00 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 2.57% or 55.0 points to end at 2195.0 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) was up 2.54% or 248.0 points to 10020.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.14% or 19.60 points to trade at 361.90 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 3.77% or 161.0 points to end at 4105.0 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 3.52% or 10.40 points to 285.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1150 to 994 and 141 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.70% or 12.45 to $1783.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.65% or 0.25 to hit $38.47 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.11 to trade at $40.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.51% to 1.2350, while EUR/GBP rose 0.73% to 0.9096.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 97.347.
