Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Construction & Materials and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 5.12% or 80.00 points to trade at 1643.50 at the close. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 3.53% or 24.80 points to end at 727.60 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 3.14% or 6.30 points to 207.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.20% or 58.50 points to trade at 1335.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 3.86% or 69.20 points to end at 1723.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 2.90% or 11.65 points to 390.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1084 to 948 and 134 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.41% or 5.50 to $1337.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.29% or 0.82 to hit $64.39 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.13% or 0.78 to trade at $69.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3981, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.8787.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 90.00.
