Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 5.94% or 22.80 points to trade at 406.80 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 4.10% or 116.5 points to end at 2958.0 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) was up 3.18% or 59.00 points to 1912.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which lost 5.63% or 28.70 points to trade at 480.70 in late trade. GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) declined 4.81% or 1.59 points to end at 31.45 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 4.30% or 104.00 points to 2313.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1206 to 1084 and 111 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.22% or 21.95 to $1775.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $63.24 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.18 to trade at $66.00 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.4132, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.8652.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 89.817.
