Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which rose 3.35% or 41.50 points to trade at 1,279.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) added 2.81% or 132.00 points to end at 4,835.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.64% or 18.00 points to 699.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GSK plc (LON:GSK), which lost 2.40% or 33.00 points to trade at 1,340.50 in late trade. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) declined 2.01% or 14.80 points to end at 720.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 1.89% or 49.00 points to 2,549.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 914 to 858 and 651 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.42% or 38.69 to $2,757.09 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.97% or 1.35 to hit $69.94 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.50% or 1.08 to trade at $73.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 106.26.
