Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Chemicals and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 2.52% or 76.0 points to trade at 3097.0 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 2.13% or 43.00 points to end at 2062.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 1.97% or 1.02 points to 52.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.05% or 19.40 points to trade at 364.70 in late trade. Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq) declined 2.35% or 0.032 points to end at 1.328 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 2.18% or 4.35 points to 195.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1093 to 1077 and 246 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.01% or 18.05 to $1762.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.51% or 0.37 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.36 to trade at $74.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.3849, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8598.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 92.007.
