Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Metals & Mining and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 11.46% or 95.00 points to trade at 924.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 4.70% or 7.15 points to end at 159.15 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 3.01% or 16.60 points to 568.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 3.89% or 49.00 points to trade at 1210.50 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 3.41% or 280.00 points to end at 7940.00 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) shed 1.98% or 101.00 points to 4991.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 969 to 937 and 142 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.61% or 8.20 to $1327.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.86% or 1.79 to hit $60.81 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.60% or 1.71 to trade at $64.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.06% to 1.3878, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8933.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 89.67.
