Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Software & Computer Services and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which rose 3.86% or 67.40 points to trade at 1812.00 at the close. Informa PLC (LON:INF) added 3.42% or 26.00 points to end at 786.00 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was up 3.35% or 47.00 points to 1451.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 6.32% or 147.00 points to trade at 2180.50 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 6.08% or 8.00 points to end at 123.60 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 3.81% or 32.40 points to 819.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1051 to 1012 and 321 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.32% or 4.05 to $1281.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.73% or 0.45 to hit $61.85 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.53% or 0.37 to trade at $70.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.53% to 1.3005, while EUR/GBP rose 0.53% to 0.8602.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.417.
