Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.07% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 4.48% or 48.00 points to trade at 1120.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 3.79% or 143.00 points to end at 3920.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.83% or 39.00 points to 1416.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which lost 4.77% or 29.00 points to trade at 579.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.71% or 37.00 points to end at 1326.00 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) shed 1.74% or 44.00 points to 2485.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1137 to 986 and 134 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.17% or 2.20 to $1263.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.45% or 0.26 to hit $57.48 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.14 to trade at $63.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.3348, while EUR/GBP rose 0.59% to 0.8854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 93.23.
