Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Food Producers, Tobacco and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 2.42% or 43.00 points to trade at 1818.00 at the close. RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA) added 1.58% or 10.00 points to end at 640.80 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) was up 1.34% or 31.00 points to 2338.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which lost 2.14% or 3.34 points to trade at 153.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 1.97% or 16.60 points to end at 827.00 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 1.75% or 2.45 points to 137.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1028 to 912 and 371 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 1.50 to $1185.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.49% or 0.32 to hit $65.78 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.33 to trade at $71.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.18% to 1.2738, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8960.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 96.16.
