Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil & Gas Producers and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 9.39% or 8.28 points to trade at 96.50 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 9.13% or 26.30 points to end at 314.20 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 8.75% or 44.40 points to 551.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Diageo PLC (LON:DGE), which lost 5.55% or 160.0 points to trade at 2721.0 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 3.22% or 147.0 points to end at 4413.0 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) shed 2.85% or 248.0 points to 8438.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1176 to 1000 and 148 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 1.74% or 34.45 to $2009.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.37% or 0.56 to hit $41.57 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.23 to trade at $44.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3067, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.9018.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 93.368.
